"The truth is, once your work achieves a certain degree of adulation for doing something (especially something as egotistical as blogging), it is basic human nature to want to shout “THAT WAS ME! I DID THAT”. And as the adulation builds, so too does the desire until you simply can’t contain it any longer – and you either become deliberately sloppy in protecting your identity or you go the whole hog and pick up the phone to India Knight at the Sunday Times."

NSFW: ‘Tis Pity She’s A Success – Belle de Jour and the Impossibility of Anonymous Blogging by Paul Carr.

[And in case you’re wondering, Belle de Jour has outed herself in the national press, having managed to spin out two books covering her 14 months as a high-class call girl (with two more on the way, apparently). Thanks to gossip on Twitter, I have realised only this morning that way back in 2001 or so, I met the ‘real’ BdJ a couple of times - before she took to her ‘career’ - as a result of being part of the then relatively small world of UK blogging. I mention this not as a claim to fame, nor as a bid to say ‘I know people who are in the news’, but because this simple fact makes me no more interested in, or impressed by, the whole saga. I remain exceptionally cynical about it. But that’s just my personal opinion, you understand.]

Who are the furries?

BBC News investigates the world of people who openly wear furry animal outfits. Personally, I’m waiting for this report to transfer to current affairs TV. Andrew Marr would look wonderful dressed in a pink bunny suit.

Have you been pondering making the upgrade to Internet Explorer 8? No, of course you haven’t, because you’re a sensible Firefox user. But if you were considering it and needed that final push, what would no doubt send you over the edge get you downloading is an endorsement from Dolly Parton. Yes, you heard - Dolly Parton.

In this bizarre video, endorsed by Microsoft, she jokes about being a “huge computer lover”, and then tells us that she “almost said that with a straight face”. Which is quite true, because after so many cosmetic operations she’s clearly got no other choice but to keep the same straight expression. Smile too broadly, and her tightly-stretched skin and elongated mouth would undoubtedly split in two.

But why - why oh why oh why - is Dolly so keen for you to experience the technological joy of IE8? Well, because only with Microsoft’s latest browser can you check out a new feature on her official site that utilises “web slices”. Or “wayb slaaahces”, as she pronounces it. Wow. I’m sorely tempted. If only I knew (or indeed cared) what “wayb slaaahces” were - sadly, I won’t be finding out much from Dolly, because she clearly has no earthly idea either. Indeed, she acts like she’s been told only a minute before the video started recording that she actually has a website.

Coming soon: Billy Ray Cyrus on why you need to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox in order to watch the Achey Breaky Video Megamix on his official country ‘n’ western web portal. Yee-haw.

[The internet has gone mad. Official.]

How To Use An Apostrophe

Look, it’s even got a flowchart with pretty pictures. What more encouragement do you need? (Can you tell I’m losing patience with apostrophe abusers?)

Unquestionably, this is the Best Blog Ever. Dog and Deco: “for like minded fans of dogs and art deco factory buildings”. And no, you don’t need to know more than that.
