X-Ray Spex: Identity (1978)
(i) No, I can’t imagine why this song came to mind in an anonymous office first thing on a Monday morning. (Yes, all you lyrics buffs out there, even though I know it’s not really about that sort of identity.)
(ii) The crucial played by the humble and shapeless M&S cardigan in the punk & new wave movement is too often overlooked.
(iii) The band appear to have one of their dads playing drums. He looks like he’s just returned from walking the dog.
(iv) Poly Styrene is a goddess. Fact.
(v) I’d just turned seven years old when this song was released. So no, I don’t remember it from the first time round. I think I was still listening to Ken Dodd and the Diddymen.
