The limping Dr House has wrecked my knees, says Laurie

We’ve all seen able-bodied actors ‘spazzing up’ to play disabled roles - and winning awards into the bargain because of their ‘brave’ portrayals - but who could have known that doing so might have long-lasting effects: namely, that you become disabled because you’ve acted your character’s impairment so often? So yes, my heart goes out to poor Hugh Laurie, and I’m certainly not thinking “Oh, pull yourself together you whinging, overpaid thespian”.

And in case you’re wondering: yes, the reason that I have a prosthetic leg is purely because of my misspent childhood playing Long John Silver in my school’s Christmas panto.
